Flagstaff, ArizonaFlagstaff, Arizona - a stop along the Amtrak train routes. Click here for Flagstaff, Arizona's own home page.Click here for Flagstaff photos and information from the Arizona Rail Passenger Association. Basic Info: Courtesy Phones: There are 2 courtesy phones. One is near the street entrance to the station and lists mostly the hotels in the area. The other courtesy phone is near the doors that lead from the Amtrak station to the tracks. That second one has most of the car rental agencies. Auto Rental: DEFINITELY call National Car Rental in Flagstaff at either 779-1975 or 774-3321 and ask for John Claypool. You can also book National Car Rental through their toll free number: 1-800-CAR-RENT. On my first trip to Flagstaff I had a rental car reserved from Hertz. They had quoted me a rate of $27 per day unlimited milage. I arrived at the Amtrak station and did not spot Hertz as an option on the courtesy phone. Unfortunately, there were two courtesy phones and Hertz was only listed on the one hiding around the corner of the station. John was the only car rental person and he was just wandering around the station. He propositioned every arriving traveler, regardless of whether or not they already had rental reservations. He offered to match whatever rate the person had been quoted by the other rental agency and would gladly take care of the rental cancellation for you. He also pointed out that he is the only car rental company in Flagstaff located in town right near the Amtrak station. All the other car rental companies are located at the airport and either provide a free shuttle or require you to take a taxi to the airport to pick up your car rental. By being right at the Amtrak station for every arriving train, John manages to "scoup up" all of his competitions customers! It was very cold when I arrived in Flagstaff. I certainly welcomed the help and prompt service provided by John and immediately took him up on his offer. It wasn't more than 30 minutes from the time my train arrived until the time I was in my rented vehicle and on the road! So, do give John Claypool a call at National Car Rental (779-1975) when you visit Flagstaff, AZ! There address is 2320 Lucky Lane I-40, Flagstaff, Arizona 86004. City Index / Passenger Rail Travel |
