TrainWeb is an ALL VOLUNTEER organization. TrainWeb has not had any paid staff for over a decade. All content posted to TrainWeb has been an all volunteer non-paid effort. This includes over 1,000 independent train enthusiasts and train organizations who have their websites hosted for free at TrainWeb. Silver Rails is a Limited Liability Company (LLC), the corporate entity under which TrainWeb operates. Stephen Grande and Barbara Cepinko, a married couple, are the sole members/owners of Silver Rails. They have been volunteering their unpaid time to operate Silver Rails and TrainWeb for almost 30 years. Prior to 2012 there were additional owners and paid staff.
For all these years, Stephen and Barbara have been paying out of pocket for the web hosting costs, internet access costs, phone costs, and all office equipment and other expenses of TrainWeb. These costs are several hundred dollars per month. Stephen and Barbara are now retired. Not retired from continuing their work on Silver Rails and TrainWeb, just retired from any income from their other prior ventures. They can't continue to use the funds they have saved for retirement to continue covering the operating costs of TrainWeb.
Thus there is a need to create sources of income to cover the operating costs of TrainWeb. One method is to start and expand the TrainWeb Club Membership Program described above. Another is to replace the display banner links in TrainWeb headers and trailers, such as those you see on this web page, with paid advertising.
What appears to be ads on TrainWeb are actually banner links to other Silver Rails websites, mostly travel and entertainment related. These have all been hobby efforts of Stephen Grande. There has been almost no paid advertising on either TrainWeb or Silver Rails websites for almost two decades. We are going to seek paid advertisers to help cover our hosting and operating costs. We will try to primarily sell advertising to companies in the railroad, travel and entertainment sectors as we believe these ads will be of more interest to the visitors of our websites.
