Atlas Shrugged is the story of Dagny Taggart, the woman who runs Taggart
Transcontinental Railroads. Hank Rearden is the man behind Rearden Coal,
Rearden ore, Rearden iron, Rearden steel, and finally Rearden metal-- his
greatest achievement. And then there's the mysterious "John Galt", who
everyone in the world points to as the root of their problems, asking
"Who is John Galt?" whenever life gets tough. A plea of desperation.
This book unites the ideas of metaphysics, ethics, economics, and romantic
love. The story is both a mystery and a tremendous struggle. This book
contains a fantastic formulation, and application of Objectivism. Some
of the speeches of this book are reprinted in For the New Intellectual.
I would venture to say that this book is the most highly quoted work of
Rand's. It is her masterpiece.

This book is where my philosophy on life and my interest in railroads
intersect.
