We are sad to report that Jack Swanson, author of the book that provided the most detailed
minute by minute scenic guide to the Amtrak routes: "Rail Ventures", died last year. The book
was extremely popular with Amtrak travelers and was up to its seventh edition! This book is
currently very difficult to locate. However, our sources tell us that the publisher and
Jack's widow are working with someone to come up with a new updated edition of the book. Every
Amtrak traveler should have a copy of this book with them on their rail journeys and we
look forward to the availability of a new updated edition.
