NATIONAL RAILROAD PASSENGER CORPORATION

Washington, D.C.--Appointments for top positions in marketing, planning, accounting, goverment affairs, and personnel and administration were announced today by Roger Lewis, President of the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (AMTRAK).

Roger Lewis said: "Amtrak must have an effective management team capable of developing and executing positive programs that will serve the public--our number one goal. These men have the credentials and experience to get that job done."

Lewis added that key appointments in operations, legal and finance would be made shortly to round out his top management staff. The five executives named today were:

Harold L.Graham, named Vice President-Marketing, was formerly Vice President-Service, Pan American World Airways, a post in which he was responsible for world-wide passenger service policies and programs. He directed cargo and mail operations from 1961 to 1969 during which time he also was responsible for the airlines' Boeing 747 marketing program. Mr. Graham's background includes service as an accountant, a pilot, goverment consultant and former president of Resort Airlines, Inc., And Cunard Eagle Airways.

Named Vice President for Planning, David A. Watts has been Director of Corporate Planning for the Chesapeak & Ohio/Baltimore & Ohio Railroad since 1969. From 1967 to 1969, as Director of Passenger Services, he attracted industry-wide attention with such innovations as on-train motion pictures, take-your-auto service, modernization of food service and a comprehensive fare restructuring program. He also brings to his new Amtrak assignment intensive experience as a transportation economist.

Gerald D.Morgan, named Vice President for Goverment Affairs has been a partner in the Washington, D.C. law firm of Hamel, Morgan, Park & Saunders since 1961. He served successively as administrative assistant, special counsel and special assistant to President Eisenhower from 1953 to 1961 and earlier was Assistant Legislative Counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Kenneth A.Housman, who will serve as Vice President for Personnel and Administration, was Assistant Postmaster General of the United States, Bureau of Personnel, from 1969 to 1971 and most recently as expert consultant to the U.S. Postal Service. Prior to his goverment service, he spent 22 years with Union Carbide Corporation, primarily in industrial relations work. His last position with Union Carbide was Manager-Public Affairs.

Sydney Smith Sterns will serve as Controller. He was formerly Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Interstate Brands Corporation, Financial Vice President of Cudahy Company and Comptroller of Illinois Power Company. Mr. Sterns will be responsible for accounting, interal auditing and budgetary and treasury procedures to ensure appropriate accounting and control of corporate funds.
