Live from the Coast Starlight! I'm writing this on my notebook PC while traveling on the Coast Starlight (Friday, 1/12/96). Can you tell from my level of enthusiasm which passages were written on the train and which were written afterward?

Many veteran train travelers say that this is the most beautiful of all Amtrak routes on just about the best trains in the fleet! I haven't been on enough different routes to verify that, but I have taken enough trips on the Coast Starlight to not doubt that claim!

If you wish to judge Amtrak at its very best, then do take your very first Amtrak trip on the Coast Starlight. You probably won't be disappointed. The Coast Starlight travels along some of the most scenic parts of this country. The scenery varies from the coast of southern California to the mountains of the northwest. Along the way, you travel within feet of the shoreline, head right through mountain passes, and of course through the real view of both urban and rural America. There is also plenty of farmland, cattle ranches, horse ranches, and even goats, pigs and sheep along the way. If you want a rail tour with views of a little of everything, this is it! Have your camera ready!
