Had a great time, the ONLY WAY to see the USA. Accomodations and service was SUPER. Needless to say, the price was right!!!!! South Bend, In. to Chicago to Sacramento to Seattle to Spokane to Chicago to South Bend, In.

We can forget those nightmare drives to the airports - get on the train in our home town and GO. AND we ARE going again.

I read somewhere on internet that when you rent a sleeping room, it's like a private hotel room and smoking is OK. Whoops, I was embarassed. Still trying to find the web site where I read that and get it corrected. The South Bend, In. train station where I bought our tickets, did not know that there are smoker cars on the long, cross country hauls. That is an important bit of info for a avid smoker like myself.

1. I think Amtrak has their priorities mixed up on the Coast Starlight = they provided a kiddy car with entertainment but no smoking car. Uh, the kids aren't writing the checks for this are they......

2. So, what's wrong with 1 sleeping and smoking car combined? Ok, the walking back and forth kept me busy but my arthritis kicked up a bit (not nice)

3. There was no volume control on TV in the observation car of the Empire Builder. (left Spokane for Chicago- train #28 Mon April 13 at 1:15 a.m.)When they showed the movie, the sound blasted most of us out. Please repair.

4. We had sleeping car for the long hauls but coach seats for the short spans. Those coach seats are a worn out joke. Really need replacing. Rough to sit in and forget trying to sleep in it. I heard folks say that greyhound bus seats are better than amtrak coach !

Thanks again for a great vacation oportunity and we'll see ya again just as soon as we can. Ruth & Les Banghart.
