San Diegan Club Meeting

Meetings: August we will meet in San Diego. We will gather at the train
station when #572 arrives (11:25AM) and go to the pier area to a little
restaurant called The Bay Cafe. Last year we went there and enjoyed the
view of the harbour and Santa Fe Station. It's outdoor, upstairs location
presents quite a view for anyone to enjoy. Come on down and join us!

September is another excursion, a big one! If your like me, you have
'threatened' to take the Amtrak all the way up to San Luis Obispo and back.
Well, thanks to a suggestion made, we will do almost this. We are going to
designate the #769 (northbound) and the #792 (southbound) as club meeting
trains. This will be a trip to Santa Barbara and back. Jack Wilson
(Director of the San Diegan Line) has graciously suggested that we occupy
the lower level of the Cafe car and he may even join us for the trip! The
idea is you can get on at any station and get off at any station, just head
for the Cafe car and join us. We will go to a local restaurant in Santa
Barbara for a meal and then return the same day. It will be a long one for
those of us that will be starting and ending in San Diego!! But I am sure
it will be a great time for all. Just for note, we will be arriving in
Santa Barbara at 11:50AM, and leaving at 2:05PM.

October may bring us back to San Diego to the Campo San Diego Railroad
Museum location where we may ride a steamer train. It is down for repairs
right now and if it is not ready for our October meeting, we will
reschedule for another month. We will keep you informed on this.

November there is a special excursion from the San Diego Electric Railway
Association. It will be on Saturday the 15th. The excursion will take us on
a run of the new section of Trolley operation into the Mission Valley
extension, which is scheduled to open in December. I attended the last
excursion for the opening of Old Town and it was fun to be on. The Trolley
makes stops along the route for photo opportunities and drive-bys. Tickets
for the last excursion were $35 per person. The price and time have not
been set yet. When they are I will let you know. If you want information
can be obtained by sending me a SASE to the below address. Hurry if you
are interested though, last year they sold out and added another car to
the maximum length. They are anticipating another sell-out and if it does
occur, and there is enough demand, they may be able to add Sunday the
16th!
