Matt

As we say back in the old country, "the proof of the pudding is in the eating".  How will fare paying customers react?  Will they come back for more?

What's probably more objectionable is the fact that the decision to reduce the quality and choice of food service is based on flawed Amtrak accounting.  Also there appears to have been a lack of real effort to achieve economies, reduce waste, theft and of course overhead and yet still put good food on the table. And of course the dining car experience is such an integral part of the long distance train product that it can't be looked at in isolation.  If you want to charge premium fares the service should match.

I kind of agree with Matt about sticking pejorative labels on things.  On the other hand I'd still have to describe it as "downgraded".  It's certainly not "improved", even if it's "new".

What do the rest of you have to say?  We're open to all points of view here.
