Eventually we had no choice but to move our monthly Rail Travel Meetups to Knowlwood in Fullerton, California. The number of people attending each monthly gathering had gotten huge. Other restaurants wanted to know in advance how many people would be attending so they could staff up accordingly. But we never knew. We would just announce each monthly meetup and whoever wanted to attend, would just show up.
So, we moved our monthly Meetups to Knowlwood where each person could just order at the counter when they showed up. They didn't care how few or how many people showed up. For them it was just one more customer that would come in the door and order at the counter. The manager of this Knowlwood greatly appreciated our business and looked forward to our monthly gatherings. As people showed up, we'd have to move more and more tables together. There were times that we practically took over every table in the restaurant even though it was a pretty big restaurant!
One day Knowlwood got sold and was no longer a hamburger place. Knowlwood locked the doors and put a sign on the door that they had closed. This totally confused our members. Even though we posted to the Meetup page and sent out email to all members of the location, date and time of every gathering, I guess most people just showed up at the same place, same date, and same time every month without checking the Meetup page. We announced the location of our new venue, but almost nobody showed up. Our group attendance instantly dropped from dozens to just a handful and never completely recovered after that.
