There is a poorly worded poll at the Wall Street Journal website asking: "Should Amtrak scale back its service to only its profitable routes?". That is entirely misleading, as there are no purely "profitable routes," just as there are no purely profitable highways. In other words, a "yes" vote technically means you are in favor of getting rid of everything.
