A note from NARP.
Subject: Appropriations bills next week
Date: Fri, 21 May 1999 16:42:05 -0400
From: NARP
Organization: NARP
To all NARP members, May 21, 1999--
The appropriations process now appears to be speeding up, at least for
transportation purposes. Sen. Richard Shelby's (R-AL) appropriations
subcommittee on transportation is expected to mark up its fiscal 2000
funding bill on Tuesday afternoon, May 25. The full committee, chaired
by Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK), likely will take up the bill Thursday
morning.
Also Thursday, May 27, there is a possibility that the House
Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, chaired by Frank Wolf
(R-VA), will mark up a House counterpart bill.
Now is the time to ask your legislators to push for Amtrak's $571
million and the right of Amtrak to spend that money on both maintenance
of way and maintenance of equipment.
