The 200x40 pixel clickable banner ads that you see to the right are not paying sponsors but rather are part of the TrainWeb / SilverRails network of websites. These are websites that we ourselves own, manage, or with which we have a strong business alliance or affiliation. Once in a while you will see an independent website represented that we are promoting for some specific purpose, but not as a paid advertiser.

The main purpose of these clickable banner ads is to increase browsing within our own network of websites and generally not to link to websites outside of the TrainWeb / SilverRails network.

We have phased out selling 200x40 pixel clickable banner ads. However, there are a handful of sponsors that have been with us for years that we have grandfathered in. There are also a number of railroad magazine advertising trading partners that we still promote with the 200x40 pixel banner ads. Some of those ads used to appear in the column to the right on a few of the main pages at TrainWeb but no longer do so. However, those 200x40 pixel clickable banner ads still appear in ad rotation throughout most of the entire TrainWeb network. Each ad usually appears between 40,000 and 60,000 times per month. So if you are one of our legacy sponsors or trading partners, your clickable banner ad is still getting a huge amount of exposure every month at TrainWeb even though it no longer appears in a fixed position on the main pages of TrainWeb.
