STARTING FROM KANSAS CITY:

Starting from Kansas City, you can take an Amtrak train trip to La Plata, Missouri, and be back home later that evening! Or, you can extend your trip by spending one, two or more days in La Plata. The eastbound Amtrak Southwest Chief departs from Kansas City at 7:26 AM every day and arrives into La Plata, Missouri, at 9:57 AM, about a 2 and 1/2 hour train ride. You can spend the day on your own in La Plata, or you can reserve a room just for the day at The Depot Inn & Suites and have the hotel pick you up when the train arrives into the La Plata Amtrak Station. You can then enjoy the ammenities of the hotel all day, even if you don't spend the night. The hotel will shuttle you back to the station to catch the westbound Amtrak Southwest Chief at 8:06 PM. That train is scheduled to be back into Kansas City by 10:11 PM and you should be back home the same day your train trip started!

If you have a bit more time, you can spend the night at The Depot Inn & Suites and enjoy a day or two in La Plata exploring all that the hotel has to offer as well as the local tour options described in greater detail on the prior page.

STARTING FURTHER SOUTHWEST THAN KANSAS CITY:

The eastbound Amtrak Southwest Chief starts from Los Angeles every evening at 6:45 PM. This train stops at a number of cities in Southern California and throughout the Southwest including Fullerton, Riverside, San Bernardino, Flagstaff, Albuquerque, and more. Starting from Southern California, you will spend one full night, one full day, and another full night on the eastbound Amtrak Southwest Chief, arriving the second morning into La Plata, Missouri, at 9:57 AM. You can spend the day on your own in La Plata, or you can reserve a room just for the day at The Depot Inn & Suites and have the hotel pick you up when the train arrives into the La Plata Amtrak Station. You can then enjoy the ammenities of the hotel all day, even if you don't spend the night. The hotel will shuttle you back to the station to catch the westbound Amtrak Southwest Chief at 8:06 PM.

STARTING FROM THE COAST OF CALIFORNIA, OREGON or WASHINGTON:

If you are starting from other west coast cities, you can take the southbound Amtrak Coast Starlight and spend the night in Los Angeles. You could then spend the day touring downtown Los Angeles and Los Angeles Union Station, then depart on the westbound Amtrak Southwest Chief at 6:45 PM.
