There is Amtrak service from both Montreal and Toronto, Canada. From either of these cities, you can take an Amtrak train that
will connect with the westbound Amtrak Lakeshore Limited. For a number of Canadian cities along the northeast border of the
United States, it is also possible to drive over the border to catch a southbound Amtrak train that will connect with the
westbound Amtrak Lakeshore Limited. The westbound Amtrak Lakeshore Limited also stops in Buffalo, New York, and Toledo, Ohio,
which is not too far from some Canadian border cities. If you live close to the border with Michigan, there are a number of
Amtrak trains that run from U.S. border cities in that state into Chicago.
If you live in any of the western Canadian provinces, the eastbound Amtrak Empire Builder runs through many of the northern states
very close to the Canadian border. Your best bet may be to cross the border by car and catch the train in one of those cities.
From Chicago, you would take the westbound Amtrak Southwest Chief that departs every day at 3:15 PM.
This train arrives into La Plata, Missouri, at 8:06 PM,
about a 5 hours rail journey when the train is running on schedule. A free shuttle will transport you to the comfort of your
room at The Depot Inn & Suites from the La Plata Amtrak Station. There is no need to worry if your train is running late. As long as
the hotel knows you are arriving by Amtrak, they will be there to pick you up when the train arrives.
