Amtrak Coast Starlight Wine Tasting
in the Pacific Parlour Car

(Roaring 20s party music in the background with soft conversations throughout the car)

By the way, don't be shy. We are going to be doing three wines today. So, put enough [cheese and crackers] on your plate to carry you through three wines. But, try not to eat it all before we begin (laughter). Does everybody have a glass? Now does everybody have water? Does everybody have cheese and crackers? Well, good afternoon. First of all, let me introduce myself to you. My name is Richard Talmy [Amtrak Pacific Parlour Car Attendant]. [In addition to this Wine Tasting today] we are going to be doing another one tomorrow. So, if you are going to be on the train tomorrow, we will be doing it both days. I certainly hope you enjoy it. We are going to do three wines today. We are also going to do three wines tomorrow. They are going to be different wines tomorrow. We do these wine tastings every day on the train. We did a study a number of years ago and we found that you folks fit the profile of an elite group and that elite group is the perfect wine drinker. So what we do is we go out to small wineries. Small wineries are where you are going to find your best wines. We go out and do the same thing that high end hotels and restaurants do: we buy a whole lot. For instance, whenever you see a wine bottle that has a date on it, it is from a finite crop. There is just so much of it. Sometimes a winery will produce a large crop and sometimes a winer will produce a small crop. We generally look for the small batches. -1:44:47
