New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans, Louisiana - a stop along the Amtrak train routes.

NEW ORLEANS
CITY TOUR

Here's a great way for you to turn a bit of a layover in New Orleans into a wonderfully enriching experience: A two hour sightseeing tour of "The Big Easy", complete with a delicious po-boy box lunch. Don't miss this opportunity to learn about one of the most interesting cities in America.

First, we'll be greeted by a licensed professional tour guide as we board a Custom motorcoach for this all inclusive look at the Mardi Gras City. We'll absorb the many sights and sounds of the famous French Quarter and historic Jackson Square. Our guide will share the legends, the landmarks and the beautiful architecture that make New Orleans famous. Then we'll take a stroll through one of the unusual above ground cemeteries (referred to as "Cities of the Dead".) Now, let's continue our tour along scenic Bayou St. John to the spectacular shores of Lake Pontchartrain, with its picturesque yacht harbors and many seafood eateries.

Next we'll drive uptown to one of the most elegant sections in New Orleans. We'll follow the natural curve of the Mississippi River as we travel along St. Charles Avenue with its stately antebellum mansions and vintage streetcars (still in service). We will pass Tulane University, Audubon Park and the elegant Garden District; places unique to this multicultural city. Finally we'll wind our way around New Orleans modern City Center to see, among other things, The Louisiana Superdome (home of the 1997 NFL Superbowl).

We'll arrive back at the Union Passenger Terminal in plenty of time to resume our journey by rail; taking with us memories of a short but enjoyable visit to New Orleans.

We're Westbound once again, aboard the SUNSET LIMITED...
